Washi Paper Making
Running gracefully through our resort’s grounds, the Tenjin river was an ancient site of paper making during the Heian period (794 to 1185) and is believed to be the birthplace of refined Japanese paper Washi making in Japan. Through this bespoke craft experience, you’ll dip back into the centuries old tradition of Japanese paper making under the supervision of a Japanese paper artist using the finest quality paper.

Kintsugi Experience
At the workshop of Hiroki Kiyokawa, an eminent master of Kintsugi , the ancient art of reviving broken or chipped pottery pieces with gold and lacquer in the quest of creating something more refined,
You will gain hands-on Kintsugi experience, either using your own damaged pottery or with provided pieces. This specially curated experience will allow you to gain insights into the techniques and philosophy hidden behind the veils of this sublime art form that also acts as a metaphor for embracing the flaws and imperfections of life.

Japanese Tea Ceremony
Surrounded by the tranquility of Kitayama cedars and the elegance of maple leaves, take part in the sublime art of the Japanese tea ceremony within the confines of a historic teahouse relocated from the venerated 14th-century Daitokuji-Temple to the northern garden of Shozan Resort. Other venue options include the Hōgyoku-tei guest house and the Sakadaru tea space, an ingeniously renovated sake cask turned tea ceremony room.

Handicraft Porcelain Making
Under the tutelage of 3rd generation porcelain master, Kano Shoukoku, a descendant of arguably Kyoto’s most famous pottery lineages, you’ll create ceramic art in a centuries-old fashion while using soil from the ROKU KYOTO estate. After completion, your finished piece will be kiln-fired and sent to your home. The finishing process takes two months to complete, but this period will only serve to heighten your anticipation as you await an unforgettable keepsake of your journey with us.
